Ecole Communautaire Saint Michel

The founder of Morne Mouton dropped out of school in the fourth grade to help his mother and father farm in the mountainside fields. This is the reality of many children in vulnerable communities across Haiti. The community school of Morne Mouton, or Sheep Mountain, was started by the founder who donated part of his land atop the mountain that has an outstanding view of the Central Plateau to originally serve as a place to teach adults how to read and write. In collaboration with Summits Education, it then transitioned into a primary school. The founder was part of the first graduating 6th grade class and is now on his way to completing high school. During the construction of the school, the community came together to carry bags of sand and other supplies up the mountain. The community now hopes to one day have a computer room, more trees to provide shade, and water.
